"Vacancy" is the best horror film of the year. Genuinely scary and undeniably realistic, the latest horror film fom Sony Pictures definitely goes down as one of the most frightening films of the decade. Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale headline this picture about a couple on the verge of being divorced who run into car trouble and are forced to spend the night in rundown motel. The room comes fully equipped with c*ck roaches, unkempt furniture and a collection of low-budget slasher films, or so they appear. In an attempt to make the best out of the situation, Wilson's character decides to scan through some of the old videotapes only to discover that the victims on the film are all brutally killed in the very room by which their staying in. Now, our main characters are forced to work together and set aside their marriage issues if they're ever to make it out of the motel room in one piece.

What makes "Vacancy" so suspenseful is the feeling of isolation and the unknown. Being trapped inside a motel room and having no idea who the killers are, our main characters are left fighting for their lives in total unawareness of who they're actually dealing with. Searching the room up and down, our characters discover an underground tunnel system that seems like a great escape route, however, also a brilliant way for the killers to get inside the room completely unseen. The fact that snuff films actually exist and are being made at this very moment just adds to the tension we're already presented with.

Wilson and Beckinsale deliver superb performances. Being the comedic he is, Wilson does incredible with his role in trying to be a hero even under such horrific circ*mstances. Beckinsale on the other hand, though still incredible, greatly reminded me of Jessica Beil's character in "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". Nevertheless, she's still mesmerizing and wins over the audience in every way imaginable.

Sony Pictures has released a load of crap over the last few years, but "Vacancy" stands as one of their better attempts and definitely one of their most frightening. The film is a combination of a gritty-atmospheric, claustrophobia ridden terror infested thrill-ride that'll keep you at the edge of your seat throughout the entire runtime. This is definitely worth checking out!
