True Grit: Synopsis
Charles Portis' novel is about a 14-year-old girl who, along with an aging U.S. marshal and another lawman, tracks her father's killer in hostile Indian territory. While the original film was a showcase for John Wayne, the Coens' version will tell the tale from the girl's point of view. The original starred Kim Darby as the teen, Wayne and Glen Campbell as the lawmen, Jeff Corey as the killer and featured Robert Duvall and Dennis Hopper as fellow outlaws.

I like Jeff Bridges, but there is no way this remake is as good as the 1969 original with John Wayne. Just my humble opinion, folks.

In summary, I really must say don't waste your money going to see this one. The script was poorly written, which resulted in gaping holes in the story line.

How John Wayne would have reacted to the news of the remake of his movie True Grit

@Supes like Diaigma said, the book really doesn't equate to a rated-R adaption

@Diaigma I know, really! This is going to be a heavy PG-13 film. I really do not give a rats ass what the rating is. If it was G, maybe a little. But I haven't read the book. And 95% is still a frggin good rating. That's a 4.75/5 stars pretty much.

Exactly. For some movies, its rating doesn't matter, it's how well the story is played out, amongst other things. This is obvious storyline driven, so excessive violence and profanity isn't a necessity and probably wouldn't have added anything to the movie overall.
Now you take a movie like the Alien prequel they want to, that is a different story. When you got aliens that incubate inside humans and burst out of them, you either go for broke and make that sh*t realistic and bloody, or you don't do it at all. A time and place for everything, including proper ratings :D

Diaigma
Seriously. If you've read the novel, you'll see that it doesn't exactly equate to an R rated adaptation. A hard PG-13, sure, but why does the rating matter anyway? RT has it set at 95% at the moment. It could be rated G (like the original) and I'd still go see it with a percentage that high :P

PG-13 - for some intense sequences of western violence including disturbing images :P

Meh. The only thing John did different for the first Grit was put on an eye patch. This movie is truer to the novel, I hear :P

This movie is a Remake:The original came out in 1969. John Wayne won an academy award for his role as Rubin "Rooster" J Cogbern and it spawed a sequel that came out 3 years later. No doubt they will do the sequel as well! I like Jeff Bridges..But John Wayne was/is Better!!!!

Diaigma
What's wrong with that, @geek? The original was rated G. At least with PG-13 it'll have more "grit" than the other did. And the reviews are glowing so far. 94%. That's more than enough to get me there opening day :)

This is BS! Why can't Hollywood be more original and create "new" movies ... has all the imagination gone? This is a classic John Wayne picture and no one, not Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon or Josh Brolin are going to do it any better than the Duke did it ... "hands off" Coen brothers! Your ideas are idiotic!
