Tropic Thunder: Review By SCREENWRITER

Okay, i just saw "Tropic Thunder" and its not one-hundred percent what i expected. I was expecting and hoping for a hilarious comedy-action that wouldn't be corny and stupid. Tropic Thunder is both. The movie has many corny and stupid scenes and its really offensive to many things. Ben Stiller was one of the writers and he directed this movie, i guess Ben finds it funny using the term "Retard" a few times in this. He also makes fun of people with special needs by creating "Simple Jack". I didn't find that funny at all. I found it totally offensive. That was a big reason i dropped a star from this movie. Another reason i dropped that 5th star is because the movie is filled with fart jokes and teenage humor. For an R-RATED comedy, it wasn't that funny. Jack Black goes out of his way as an addicted actor to heroin, this movie makes Jack Black look funny from the trailers in TV SPOTS but he really isn't that funny in this. I barely even payed attention to Jack Black in this movie. Ben Stiller, the actor, writer, and director of this movie is good in this. He does an alright job. He wasn't funny pretending to be a special needs character in his "Simple Jack" creation, but Ben Stiller still does a decent job. But i'll explain more of Ben's acting when i get to my acting paragraph. The movie is offensive and some will not like this, the only reason i kept it at 3.5 stars is the performance by Robert Downey Jr...which is why the acting is at five stars. All cause' of him.

ACTING:

Go Robert Downey, Jr. He was awesome in this. I mean, c'mon, how many actors can play an australian playing an african-american? How many? Robert Downey, Jr can! And he succeds! Robert was the only character i laughed from in this movie. Because, he was the only funny character. He did awesome. He had awesome lines and everything. I know that everyone is happy that Heath Ledger one that oscar but man did i wish Robert Downey, Jr one it! He deserved it just as much as Heath did! But, i am still happy for Heath Ledger's acheivment so don't get me wrong. Ben stiller does an alright performance but he created a very offensive story. Jack Black was bad, Matthew M was okay, and even Tom Cruise was in this but i didnt really like his character.

Visually, this movie is pretty cool.

The direction was good so i give Ben tops for that.

All and all, an offensive comedy, see it, but i warn some that this will get you angry if it offends you.
