The story was top notch. How can you not love a science fiction version of the classic piratey Treasure Island? Since hollywood wants to make so many classic-book-to-movie adaptations these days, they should take a hint from this movie. It followed the original bit by bit and added new, fresh elements that made it better. How often can a movie do that?!
The acting was splendid. Not only did they find excellent talent to play characters like Jim and Silver, but getting experienced actors like David Hyde Pierce to play Dr. Doppler, Martin Short to play B.E.N., and Emma Thompson as Captain Amelia (the best character) was brilliant. The cast was an all-star cast.
The directing was brilliant. John Musker and Rob Clements are geniuses. It was their ideas and directing talent that created the wonderful world of this movie, and more directors should take them as an example today.
The visuals were BEAUTIFUL. I love hand drawn animation, and I'm not a big fan of 100% CGI movies. Now before you kill me, allow me to explain myself: CGI IS LAZY. If 100,000 college students per semester can learn CGI, then how hard is it?! I've even learned how to do it! But no, hand drawn animation takes time, blood, sweat and tears. There is nothing harder in the movie industry than it, except for maybe clay animation. But Treasure Planet took it to a whole new level: hand drawn AND CGI animation COMBINED. Allow me to put it simply:
Hand + CGI + perfect synchronization = FREAKIN' AWESOME.
Take Long John Silver for example; His organic parts were hand drawn, and his cybernetic parts were CGI. DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD THAT IS?!?! TO PUT THOSE TWO ELEMENTS TOGETHER, SYNCHRONIZE IT, AND MAKE IT WORK?!?! Now, THAT is skill, baby!
So overall, Treasure Planet is one of the best movies this generation has ever been privileged to witness, and it will go down in the generations as a movie that anyone can enjoy!!!

Okay, I'm putting this up here for future reference: I made an oopsie. Truth is, I feel Hand Drawn animation takes A LOT more skill, but CGI is still cool. Like Transformers for example. The CGI in that movie was crazy cool. ;-D

Oh, this was the invite you sent out on Myspace. This looks interesting, I'll have to look it up. I must disagree with you about CGI though. CGI is just another medium, and a great one. However, being creative, interesting and artistic with it: that's the hard part.
