Trapped: Review By The CryptKeeper

Well, I was home alone one day, and my dad suggested I watch this. I am not what you could call a fan of any of the actors in the film. But the story sounded kinda interesting- and trust me. It was.

So maybe the kidnapping to get some money with the "perfect crime that goes wrong" has been done at least 50 million times before. BUT I still liked in this one. All of the victims are at different locations, with different members of the bad guys. Plus this one has a twist to the plot. We find out that it is more than just about money. There's also revenge. Let me explain. *SPOILER* So, obviously this is about kidnapping a family to get some money. Or so it appears. We later find that the group of bad guys THINK that the husband (who is a doctor) neglected to do some things, and killed their daughter. So that's why they are pissed. They get money and revenge at the same time.

This film has a great cast, including Charlize Theron (The Italian Job), Stuart Townsend (Queen of the Damned), Dakota Fanning (Hide and Seek), Kevin Bacon (Death Sentence), and the very ugly, bad actress Courtney Love (nothing that I know of! lol). They all do a fine job (Exception being Courtney Love). Charlize Theron plays the wife that is being kidnapped. She does a good job of being in a tough position throughout the film, and is never cheesey. Although Stuart Townsend is not a actor I am familiar with, in this, I still like his character. He is no wimp. Dakota Fanning is about 8, maybe. She is the daugter of Charlize Theron, and Stuart Townsend. She is the first to get kidnapped. She had always been a great actress, especially for her age. And while this may not be her best performance, I still think she was the best pick, beause most child actors suck. Kevin Bacon plays the head of the bad guys. He is the one staying with Charlize Theron (remember before when I mentioned that each victim stays with a different bad guy?). He is like... almost nice to her. And obviously has the hots for her. Him and his sick fantasies. He does this part well. For a few seconds in some scenes you almost forget he is the bad guy, because he tries to like compromise with Theron, and almost like he wants to help... but can't. And Courtny Love is the gad guy keeping Stuart Townsend captive. She is also Bacon's husband. But who cares about her? Terrible actress. Why coundn't they get someone else?

The director is Luis Mandoki. I have never heard of him, but that doesn't mean he hasn't done anything else, or that he can't direct a movie for sh*t. He does a fine job. If you get the wrong director, the movie could be dull, and a total bore. This is not the case. You are on the edge of your seat from the second the film starts. He does a good job on this one.

I am really surprised this film flopped at the box office, because I think it is a really good film. One that I recommend highly.
