'Titanic' Review By Forrestgump1
Not that Titanic was not an amazing film already. But thanks to James Cameron year long efforts and years in the making Titanic 3D is a must see, if your not a 3D Person this Conversion will most certainly change your mind. Just as good as the first time.
Titanic took the world by storm in 1997 many experts believed Titanic to be a box office bomb and not go anywhere in the world. Running a slick 3hrs and 14mins they were almost certain. Then something happened it was released into theaters. To become the highest grossing movie ever (until years later when Cameron's next directorial effort Avatar took its place). Still nonetheless a movie that has heart, emotion and a love story you can honestly never forgot and for me although i'm sketchy on 3D i will watch a 3D movie if i know it was A. Shot in 3D and B. there was actual time and effort put into the process. Now obviously Titanic came out way before 3D is what it is today. So no way it was shot in 3D. So my next point - Time and Effort. I was worried at first considering Clash of the Titans (2010) set a new low for 3D Conversions, but it has come along way. But i figured considering Avatar was such a 3D treat, that Cameron was not going to tack on some lame conversion as an excuse to release his beloved film in theaters yet again, but instead he put 1 year into the conversion process that alone, sold me the second i heard it. Cameron has turned his once 2D Gem into a 3D masterpiece. I Was actually shocked at how real the 3D felt it was in your face and for a movie that was never intended to be in 3D and was converted is ten times better than any 3D movie i have seen (excluding Avatar). and most of those 3D movies were Shot and made for 3D when Titanic was not. So that really says something about the time and depth put into this conversion, so i think any movie wants to considered converting to 3D talk to Jim, because he knows what he is doing. Literally going Frame by Frame taking it second by second. Something that needs to be cherished and honestly the best $10 i ever spent on a 3D movie ticket.
Story: 5/5 - Now another important note, is that nothing in the movie is changed its word for word. Nothing in the movie has been changed like a more notable George Lucas tweaking his Star Wars film for Blu-Ray release. Titanic is the same old movie we still love and i do appreciate that. I'm glad there no surprises. The film starts off with Brock Lovett (Bill Paxton) retrieving artifacts from the submerged ship. Lovett looks for diamonds but finds a drawing of a young woman, nude except for a necklace. When 102-year-old Rose (Gloria Stuart) reveals she's the person in the portrait, she is summoned to the wreckage site to tell her story of the 56-carat diamond necklace and her experiences of 84 years earlier. Now 1912 Southampton where passengers boarding the Titanic include penniless Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) and society girl Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet), returning to Philadelphia with her wealthy fiance Cal Hockley (Billy Zane). After the April 10th launch, Rose develops a passionate interest in Jack. They spawn a love story that will last for generations all leading up to the ships final demise on the evening of April 12th.
Story: 5/5 - The story is timeless and even 13 years later its still a dazzle and treat to watch a movie that truly never gets old. Now i was like 5 when it came out so of course i never saw it in theaters i did see 6 or so years ago and i loved it. So for me to experience this film on the big screen was really what i wanted the 3D was great to don't get me wrong. Acting: 5/5 - Leonardo DiCaprio rose to instant stardom when this movie came out. Making him the teen heartthrob. That every teen girl idolized. So after watching him grow and seeing him in films like Inception or Shutter Island it was really weird to see him so young on the big screen again. But even now his performance as the 3rd class passenger Jack Dawson is still incredible and his best performance to date. In his Career. Kate Winslet is perfect and gorgeous as always and who ever casted these two as the leads was a stroke of pure genius and i'm glad that the world got to feel there chemistry as i did the first time i viewed it. Billy Zane (have not seen much of him lately) as the cruel and vicious Cal. Still makes me sick to the bone and the lovely Kathy Bates was great and funny. Directing: 5/5 - All James Cameron does is work. He takes the time, makes sure the shot is perfect and makes it the best he can make it. James Cameron is not known to make dreadful movies after making the astounding Terminator 2 , Aliens 2 , this and Avatar the more intriguing thing to ask. Is what will he do next?. Although i wish he could come up with something truly more original in the near future. Visuals 5/5 - with a $200 budget the effects in this film are flawless and stupendous.
Overall: 5/5 - Not that Titanic was not an amazing film already. But thanks to James Cameron and company's year long efforts and years in the making Titanic 3D is a must see, if your not a 3D Person this Conversion will most certainly change your mind. That and seeing Titanic in theaters on the big screen was really an added bonus. So as far as 3D conversions go you can waste your money on the likes of a crappy Star Wars conversion or Disney Beauty and the Beast its just not worthy it anymore after seeing Titanic in 3D i feel like that i could never truly see a great 3D movie that im going to love because Titanic has truly set a bar that nobody can live up to. So until Avatar 2 i would not expect much good 3D in the near future, much of the 3D coming out, was rushed not cared and was added simply to increase the profit margin. Directors say no, but studios say yes. So if you just love Titanic and your afraid this is going to ruin it. You are mistaken that is quite the opposite Titanic lovers you should flock and make the trip on Titanic yet again. Its still timeless but seeing in theaters yet again in 3D no less was honestly equally as good and maybe even better then when i saw it for the very first time. I cried i will admit it :)
