  • The Thor movie looks interesting. I'll have to see it when it comes out.

  • Thank the stars they case Portman in this movie! I hope Biel is just a rumor, she gives me a headache.

I would have liked to see Alexander Skarsg&#229rd as Thor, but I think Chris Hemsworth will do just as well.

  • Movieweb is reporting they've cast Stellan Skarsgaard in an unnamed role. Well, it's pretty obvious it's Odin; he's the only principle character they haven't cast yet.
While that's awesome, it really annoys me that they didn't try harder to get Alex. The genuine father/son dynamic would have been awesome. Unless of course he's not playing Odin, but giving him anything less would seem like he's getting ripped off. Look at this guy. He's badass.

  • Well apparently I'm eating my words on my previous post. I guess Stellan Skaarsgard is not playing Odin because that role just went to Anthony Hopkins. While decidedly less badass than Stellan, Hopkins certainly looks the role and he fits with Branagh's love of literature, having starred in film adaptations of Dracula, Beowulf, and Hamlet.

  • Can't wait till a trailer comes out. I want to see what the visuals are gonna be like.

  • Well, as they haven't even started filming yet, I'd say a trailer is a long way off. We should be getting an Iron Man 2 trailer in the near future, though.

  • It seems Kenneth Branagh has found the guardian for his mythical superhero adaptation. According to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog, Idris Elba has signed on to Thor.

The actor will play Heimdall, the guardian of Thor's home land of Asgard. Elba joins a cast that already includes Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddelston and Natalie Portman.

Kenneth Branagh will direct the film, which is set for a May 20, 2011 release date. Shooting is scheduled to commence in January.

Saweet! I wish Banshee was around to see this. He loves Elba.

  • Well, Thor is finally here and it seems like most of the critics are giving it a positive review. Last I checked, 47 out of 50 critics positive. Those who have seen it over on IMDB are raving about it as well. Why Australians and critics get to see it two weeks ahead of everyone else is a mystery but I can't wait to check it out. Should start summer off with a bang.

  • I'm thrilled to bits about the positive buzz this film is getting, especially after the initial negativity from the fan community. Branagh seems to have pulled it all together. I never doubted him.

@shuabert I also can say that I am glad that Thor looks to be a success. I think this will be a good film, and leave enough room for an improved sequel.

  • @shuabert - you and me both. I've never NOT liked a Branagh film, even with mostly Shakespeare under his filmography. The man has a great eye and knows how to get the most from his actors. The only negative buzz is coming from critics who have made it a point that they don't like comic book movies, so there you go. If without prejudice, THOR should be great! :D

As of now - 93% with 30 reviews. Extremely impressive for a yet to be released in the States for another 2 weeks.

The best overall quote is from Garth Franklin:

"The trickiest of the Avengers line-up to translate to the screen, 'Thor' deserves a lot of praise for getting right something that could have gone wrong so easily"
"I'm a murderer, even when I play. Peter would be proud of me." - Ender

Now if you'll indulge me....It's Hammer Time! Hey, it had to be said.

  • Saw THOR and it's as good as most are saying. It's fun, well written, visually stunning, well directed, and struck just the right tone for the material. Even in an era when an explosion of comic-book superheroes is hitting the silver screen, THOR stands alone. What great way to start off what should be an epic summer.

  • I can't wait for Thor 2. I'm still irritated by the fact that Natalie Portman will not reprise her role as Jane foster in The Avengers. Good thing there is Thor 2 in 2013. Still, I'm irritated!
