One of Michael Mann's best films. Thief is a really cool crime movie very much in the way of Mann's #1 film Heat its a movie that gives you an inside look at the life & style of a professional thief. James Caan plays the lead and gives a great performance as a grade A bad ass he is even more of a bad ass in this movie than he is in the Godfather. The movie is full of realism and great images especially with its opening shot and highly well done visuals. While Mann's directing in this movie is highly impressive so are all the performances by James Caan,Tuesday Weld,Robert Prosky,even Willie Nelson and James Belushi are good. Thief is a movie full of great characters and story witch all give the movie that cutting edge of realism and throwing you into a dark underworld of crime. I would say if you liked Michael Mann's Manhunter,Heat or Collateral you will be able to enjoy Thief even William Peterson has a role in this movie as a bar tender.
