Guys like me would sometimes wonder why we fall for women head over heels when they can also give us so much headache, but THE WOMEN tells you that the same thing happens to our counterpart as well. The difference is, women won’t discuss it like us,.. over a bottle of beer, on a couch with other dudes, scratching our butt in front of a TV showing superbowl.
Once again, I may not be the right person to review this movie but the characters in THE WOMEN remind me so much of the women I’ve encounters in my life and that is freaky!
It’s freaky how close the situations and the personalities are to real life. I have never seen the play that inspired the movie, not have I seen the 1930s original movie but writer/director Diane English knows what she’s doing and she manages to imagine what it’d be like if the male is taken out of the picture but very much is still part of the equation.
But I think the movie's too damn long, She could've trimmed it down a bit.
It covers nearly every aspect from a woman’s life in a day. The shopping, the gossiping, the nagging, the emotionality, the exaggeration, the argument, the talk about sex.
Speaking of which, there’s one scene in this movie that makes me a bit uncomfortable. I understand being honest with your children but talking about sex with them when they’re so young might not be such a good idea, especially when you’re being so blunt about it. But maybe that’s the kinda approach we have to give generation today if we want to make something clear and get it through to them.
Case in point, plain and simple, THE WOMEN is not for male audience.
