- "The Wolverine Script is the best superhero script i've ever read" Darren Aronofsky

  • If, like us, you got all excited at the idea of Darren Aronofsky directing a Wolverine movie, don't be too downhearted yet that he pulled out.

If what Hugh Jackman says is true, the majority of the script that excited him remains.

"We had a script that was under Darren Aronofsky's directorial - it's 85 per cent the same. Darren took it in a Darren Aronofsky way and it's a version I know fans would have liked to have seen - I would have loved to have seen it," Jackman told Collider.

Even though James Mangold (Walk The Line, Knight & Day) is now helming and Mark Bomback (Live Free Or Die Hard, Unstoppable) has been tinkering with those words, Jackman still feels it's a strong movie.

"This is the best script we have had, which is precisely why Darren signed on. I tried to get Darren to do X3 and Wolverine and he was always like, 'It's not really for me.' I knew he was looking for a comic-book movie and he read this one and he goes, 'Hey, this is the best one I've ever read.' So there is a lot of meat on the bone there. Now, Mark and Jim have taken it and I think that it is as strong, if not stronger, than what we would have had with Darren."

Okay, but just because it is the best script for a superhero film that Jackman has ever read does not mean that it is the best script a superhero film has ever had. Last I checked, Jackman has probably only read 4 superhero scripts before this one, and two of them were absolute dogs (X3 and Wolverine).

  • Not getting excited. Time will tell
There exist four rulers in this world: Gods, Humans, Vampires and Werewolves. The Question is, who do you think is above the food chain?

I'm very much looking forward to this one and I believe it could be good, but you never know. I ain't going to set my expectations that high.

  • I'm with @bawnian-dexeus. X3, Origins, and First Class are entertaining but they're not really movies that make me want to come back. Also, I'm sick of focusing on Wolverine. How about we pick someone 20x better like the original Cyclops? Or Jean, Nightcrawler? Anyone?
Wontons and Cloverfield. What else is new?

  • @jayaottley: You should just sell these scoops to mw. You'd do well, provided the sources are sound.
You think Pike and Sykes haven't been watchin' us. They know what this is all about - and what do I have? Nothin' but you egg-suckin', chicken stealing gutter trash with not even sixty rounds between you. We're after men - and I wish to God I was with 'em

  • IGN pitched him the idea of Peter Dinklage for Puck, and Jackman loved it. He said "I'm going to tell Jim Mangold about this!"

@ROFLitschristian You're not alone. For years I have wanted a reboot, focusing on the whole team and stories held within the comics. I also feel First Class would have been served better if Kevin Bacon played Sinister intead of Shaw, because his character felt more like the demented geneticist than a power hungry mutant. Shaw as a Nazi was a downgrade for me. Anyways, stories focusing on Xavier's relationship with Juggernaut, a Mr. Sinister/Cyclops encounter, an Apocalypse sighting, etc. are things I wish to see.

  • Man do I call that hyping the sh*t out of this movie with the line "Best superhero script I've ever read!!" Uh, have you ever read the scripts for Spider-Man 2, The Dark Knight, The Incredibles, and Unbreakable? Not to mention Superman the Movie and Superman II? those were the best superhero movie scripts I have ever read :P

Apologises for the confusion with this article,in brief in an interview Hugh Jackman quoted that Darren Aronofsky stated that 'The Wolverine script is the best superhero script his ever read. Aronofsky ever praised it stating that it was as good as, if not better than his initial draft to Batman: Year 1 but overall 'the best superhero script his ever read.

  • Storm is one of my other favourite characters from X-Men. I'd love to see someone do a film about her.
