i just saw this one and i thought that the creepiness and scariness came from the viual effects and music score. The twisted creatures were great also you really didn't know exactly who might be the thing . at the end of the movie you relize if you were a fan of carpenters version that this one is a prequel. When i saw the 2 faces connected together on that thing and the dog being chased by the helicoper i knew for sure that carpenters version starts right there. i wonder if the 50s version could strangely play last or before these 2. Egerton kind of reminds me of k. russel in the eyes in some scenes.
this wasnt a remake. and the 1950s version was great but the john carpenters version was the best one to exsiest it bets the new one and the old i have frineds that this movie still freaks them out.
Corey.....did you see the 1951 version and what are your thoughts??? i'm a real lover of old school sci-fi like the original 1951"the day the earth stood still" and 1953's "war of the worlds"
@cactus1944 Are you serious? The Carpenter version supplied more creeps than most horror-films from the 80's. This 2011 prequel was all special-effects.
@cactus1944: Actually the 1951 version was a severely butchered take on the original 1938 short story which Carpenter nailed on the head. The '51 version was terrible as it didn't even attempt to incorporate the imitation factor. It was just some person with contact lenses for the monster. :P
there was only one "The Thing"....1951 version with James Arness from the original TV series "Gunsmoke" playing the alien monster. The Kurt Russell version sucked and I'm sure this new version will also. I am so done with remakes. how about some originality!!!
hi, no body seems to remember the first *the thing from another planet* movie. it was released in 1951. i seem to remember that this film was based on the House Un-American Activities Committee. Scientist at an Arctic research station discover a spacecraft buried in the ice. Upon closer examination, they discover the frozen pilot. All hell breaks loose when they take him back to their station and he is accidentally thawed out!
Ok...Well, for a "prelude", or whatever you want to call it, it looks like garbage. Let's just say I don't have high expectations for this one. I am sick of the lack of originality these days.
Guys, I just watched a man's stomach bust ope, ate another guys hands, exploding green slime and tentacles, stretching out as a a head with spider legs, the guy's head stretch out and rip with green slime *RAPING THE YOUTUBE PAUSE BUTTON*
Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. is a fan of The Thing, I don't think I'll see it.
I don't know if they should do this, or even if they can, plus if they don't have Kurt Russell or John Carpenter, they'll fail, like the thing remake they tried to do Whiteout

Why remake an already great movie?! And one that's not even that old. Judging by the trailers I have seen, they didn't change a thing. How lame!

@moviewiz001, speaking of...'that', let's hope that the screenwriters didn't make monster...'rape' anybody or any 'Thing'. For real.
