Paleontologist Kate Lloyd has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew's pilot, Carter, to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish.

i just saw this one and i thought that the creepiness and scariness came from the viual effects and music score. The twisted creatures were great also you really didn't know exactly who might be the thing . at the end of the movie you relize if you were a fan of carpenters version that this one is a prequel. When i saw the 2 faces connected together on that thing and the dog being chased by the helicoper i knew for sure that carpenters version starts right there. i wonder if the 50s version could strangely play last or before these 2.
Egerton kind of reminds me of k. russel in the eyes in some scenes.

Corey.....did you see the 1951 version and what are your thoughts??? i'm a real lover of old school sci-fi like the original 1951"the day the earth stood still" and 1953's "war of the worlds"
