This remake is a perfect textbook example why mainstream American horror doesn't represent anything no more these days. The refreshing character of the original is no where to be found. A bit of humor nor. The chilling suspense of the original film is replaced by a waterfall of gruesome scenes. Because apparently more gore is not necessary in a horror film, suspense is overestimated.
At the end, the movie runs completely out of hand when there is given an explanation for Leatherface's behavior: he was bullied, boo f****** boo! Because you always have those idiots who are disappointed because there is no motive for some kind of killer in a movie. Producer, Michael Bay, is the best to give explanations for psychopathic killers in horror movies.
I am actually not surprised at all that he has produced the movie, the man apparently has been given a mission to remake all classic horror films. Why he does it? Just for money, not to give horror films a new "touch". Cinema visitors will go visit movies with a recognizable title (like this one).
I do think it is really dumb that they still promote this movie as "based on a true story", like anyone, except credulous people, still believe that it did truly happen.
