The Tall Man: Review By Bryan Yentz

... This isn't a horror film; this isn't a drama; this isn't a thriller. It's hybrid of the three that--while not entirely successful--delivers in ways that I doubt any viewer will see coming...

Like the statue of Mary crying, the effigy of Christ on burnt toast, or a lone raven flying over a barren field, I took Movieweb's recent banner of THE TALL MAN to be a sign. Okay, so such a blatant advertisement on the side and top portions of a film website aren't as illuminating as the latter symbols may be, but I nonetheless took such a mini-epiphany as a portentous omen in need of attention. I mean, what if I didn't develop a critique and a series of elemental events began to devastate the world? What if Zeus released The Kraken again? Who knows, maybe by listening to such a sign I'm saving the entire world. . . Or, I might just be educating readers on strange filmmaking, misdirection and horror that's not really horror. . .

Eh, I'm gonna say that my review is saving the entire universe as we know it.

Anywho. . .

Pascal Laugier's, THE TALL MAN, is about the tiny town of Cold Rock; a small establishment hidden by great mountains, smothered by deep forests and burdened with child abductions at the hands of a mysterious figure known as "The Tall Man". Jessica Biel plays one of her dramatic roles here as a dreary-eyed mother who loses her son to the cloaked antagonist. In an effort to save him, she sprints headlong into a strange world of twists, clever misdirection and oddly enough, boredom.

    @bryanyentz haha it is movieweb! We know how slow they are to get all the programming perfect sometimes! At least it doesn't crash like it did back in the days of 2005-2006!

    @bawnian-dexeus,

    Yeah, I think something's busted with THe Tall Man page as I wa able to post another review. And yeah, I hear ya, I just wish I hadn't wasted so much time writing if I knew 90% of it wouldn't be included.

    @mcleve02,

    Agreed. But I just posted a review for Skyfall, so I'm guessing something's just broken with the Tall Man page.

    @bryanyentz I was about to say, I didn't need a bookmark to read your review for once! XD

    But seriously, that is an issue I really movieweb would fix... I myself have so many reviews we did from back in the day that are so short, we all wish we could change!

    To anyone that reads this, this is an INCOMPLETE REVIEW. Apparently, my account is f*cking up and not allowing me to post reviews as of right now. With this critique, half of the submission was deleted. I'm now no longer able to edit, delete, add or write reviews. I'll try and work on getting Movieweb to fix this.
