The Story of Us: Critic Reviews

Pungent, funny, and surprisingly forceful.

Though it sets out to explain why this marriage is worth saving, The Story of Us could prompt even single members of the audience to file for divorce.

This one gets stuck in a rut pretty early on and has difficulty rising out of it.

The film wants us to think that it's insightful and deeper than the usual domestic comedy-drama. It's not.

Thanks to Mr. Willis and Ms. Pfeiffer, The Story of Us has moments of warmth and charm.

There is no need to run right out. See a Matinee.

You can get all of this free on television any week, so why pay for it?

Every time 'Story' wanders perilously close to the border of soap opera, the authors steer it back on course.

Hugely enjoyable.

This is a second-rate Woody Allen midlife crisis comedy without the laughs.

Reiner's film is slick and glib when it means to be profound yet ruefully witty; its rhythms are pure sitcom, complete with emotional rimshots.

Yet, for its flaws, you really want it to work out, and the strong performances from its leads, some sharp writing and some truly funny and touching moments are clearly beneficial to the overall proceedings.

Could be described as a sequel to "When Harry met Sally," you know, like fifteen years later and with a heavier drama to comedy ratio.
