STORY: (CAUTION: it contains some spoilers!) The story is simple, and a lot like "Disturbia" which is actually way better than this: A serial killer living not next-door, but inside the house disguised as an innocent stepfather, and the troubled teen finding out the truth about him and trying to save his family from him. The storyline was decent, but I wished it could have been just a little bit better if we knew MORE about the stepfather's past and WHY he became a serial killer, and I actually thought this was kind of a rip-off of "Disturbia" by the way it acted! Plus, the ending was so disappointing since the killer got away and is still on the run! I expected him to either be killed or arrested, but no! Looks like a sequel is needed for this! If so, then I hope they make that one scary and better than this! Just saying. The storyline for this movie is still okay.
ACTING: The acting was the only thing that I really liked about this movie. Dylan Walsh's role as the evil killing stepfather was the perfect choice and was excellent! He did give me some of the chills! I even liked the teen playing Michael. He acted serious and the expressions on his face showed emotion! Let's not forget the gorgeous Amber Heard as well! Not a single ounce of bad acting in this movie! I was impressed!
DIRECTING: Nelson McCormick's directing to the film was all right. His frame shots were neat and good, but I wished he made the movie scary and thrilling. His direction was still fine though.
VISUALS: Since this movie is not rated R (Which I think should have been!), it did not have enough bloody visuals. That's why I hate horror/thriller remakes today! They need to have blood and gore in order for them to become true suspenseful thrillers!
OVERALL: Like I said in the main quote, this was an okay movie that could have been scary and better. Some will like this, but some may not. As for me, I find this movie only decent. I do hope a sequel is being planned!
