The Spiderwick Chronicles: Review By RingWraither

The Spiderwick Chronicles is a good looking story surround by pretty nice performances by the young boy and the supporting cast.

The highlight of the film in my opinion are not the action sequences of the big bad ogre, but the touching story behind Spiderwick and his daughter. Of course, I do have to say that the action in this film is pretty dark for youngsters, but it doesnt make it a bad film at all. I was really surprised how violent this was actually..kind of like a Prince Caspian tone.

There are some holes in the story about why the ogre wants the book. To rule the world is my guess...but of course which bad guy doesnt want to rule the world right? The visuals are very good for the exception of the monstrous toads..they didnt look really threatening at all. Also, the Martin Short character is very annoying!! Even though he is a "good" guy...he's pretty damn annoying. But in the end it pays off with a very touching moment at the end of the film. This is better than the Golden Compass in my opinion.

It is a good looking film with some exciting sequences and pretty funny moments. Overall, its one of the best Ive seen this year.
