The story-great. A harvard student creates a website in which other people in the campus say that he had stolen their idea. Throughout the progression of the story, we see each character struggling to cope with the network's power and friendships and relationships deteriorate. However, the story could have given each character a stronger background focus. There were many characters in the story that weren't really interesting and they couldn't get out what they really needed to get our attention. But overall the story was great.
The acting-good lord was it amazing. Jesse Eisenberg in my opinion, deserves an oscar nomination for best actor this year for his portrayal of a computer nerd struggling with the foundations of his network and with social life in general. Andrew Garfield was superb as his best friend, Eduardo Saverin, and he will be a superb actor in the future as his next role will be in the "spider man" reboot. Justin Timberlake did fairly well, he did prove that he could act. The entire cast did well in portraying their characters, they really brought the essence of these characters to the audience.
Directing-I think the oscar will go to David Fincher this year (finally) for this amazing masterpiece. How could anyone else take something like this and come out so intriguing and eye-catching? There was barely any action in the movie and yet the conversations and dialogues from each character were so interesting. I have to give the screenplay credit to Sorkin (who had a cameo in the movie) and he will most definitely win the oscar this year. His screenplay was so realistic and it went beyond from what I had expected, which was to be boring or dragging, and it was not at all.
Visuals-the cinematography was excellent especially in the hallway shots of Eisenberg's and Garfield's confrontation. The hallway shots emphasized how close they are to each other and yet it gives the impression that they are drifting apart from one another. Fantastic. Also for the usage of cgi on the twins. Armie Hammer's face was digitally copied and placed over the other actor's face and it looked realistic. (the cgi team who did this won best visual effects for "benjamin button")
Overall-the movie was excellent and it was worth my time. This movie is going to be a tough oscar competitor for sure.
