That said, The Reaping isn't bad, but it's not good either. And it's not that Swank and her acting buddies in this film didn't do a good job, I just think the premise of the flick and the way the storyline played out onscreen was pretty cheesy at best.
Mistake #1: Chile. The beginning of the film. No need. It all leads up to Swank's speech in class, I get the picture, and Hollywood doesn't need to hold my hand up to this point. I get it. She has no faith, and think all miracles have a scientific explanation.
Mistake #2: Waste of screen time. Did we really need to see the backstory stuff with her kid and her husband. No. There is so little screen time with these two characters I barely have time to blink let alone construct some actual emotional attachment to these two.
Mistake #3: Wrath of God portrayed in a hail of bad digital FX. I can see your blue screen lines, and for as much as what FX were being thrown onto the screen, the actors weren't acting enough. Hail of fire? I think I saw one actor yawning.
In all, if you're a suspense horror buff, give this one a whirl. It's not terrible, but in no way should this little Oscar Winner be the tease that draws you into what should of, and could have been a really good flick.
