Set in the swampy, ultra religious deep south, the Reaping excises all we ever wanted to know about the Old Testament's ten plagues. While it has itself a mysterious, twisting plot, breathtaking Louisiana scenery, and some fine-tuned special effects, The Reaping is only worth one-watch. The story line only goes and only can go, so far.

Weaving in religious fanatics, satan worshipers, scientific data, and sacrificial rituals, this film doesn't even leave out the latest trend in horror movies: to have a loved one recently departed. What is it with horror movies having the main character a bereaving character? Does that make us automatically sympathize with them? As if we wouldn't already?

Either way, Hilary Swank is great as Katherine, and aside from all cliches, this film is worth a watch!
