The Proposition: Review By pridalicious

The movie begins with a shootout and resulting capture of Charlie Burns (Guy Pearce) and his younger brother Mikey Burns (Richard Wilson) by British captain Morris Stanley (Ray Winstone). Upon capture, captain Stanley makes it clear that he is concerned with the capture of the oldest Burns' brother named Arthur (Danny Huston) for the rape of Ms.Hopkins and murder of the Hopkins family and their unborn child. "I wish to present you with a proposition..."

Stanley takes Mikey prisoner and gives Charlie 9 days (until Christmas) to find and dispose of Arthur before the youngest Burns' is noosed, in a bid to civilize the Australian plains.

I thought the story was good, but the acting made this movie one to remember. The performance by John Hurt as Jellon Lamb, the bounty hunter, was superb. I also thought the performaces by Danny Huston and Tom Budge (low-life travelling with Arthur Burns) were different, and may I say better, than what I expected. The only character that annoyed me was Charlie played by Guy Pearce. I expected something, whatever that something may be, better out of him. Maybe a different performance from all the other characters he's played? Nonetheless he played his part and character well.
