When i first saw the trailer to the Poughkeepsie Tapes, I was so enthusiastic to see it in theaters. I think the release of this movie was said to come out all the way back in 2007. I waited and i waited and it never showed up. So, while i was searching through some movies online to watch i came across this. I've seen some sh*tty ass doc*mentaries that bored the hell out of me. Even though the information was good to know, to tell you the truth, i really didn't give a damn. Finally, someone got an idea to do a faux doc*mentary, and who would have thought they would have done one on my favorite genre, horror. I said to myself, 'there's no way i can leave this world without seeing this'.

After i watched it, i was satisfied, but there were two big factors in this movie that should have been avoided to make it better. The first one was the sound bites done in the interviews of the cops and profilers and others. I know they had a low budget, but really, man, are these the best actors you could find to this film. Some of them, i can tell, were not taking this seriously at all, like they were just doing it for a pay check, and some of them were acting like they were doing a comedic doc*mentary. However there was this one guy, Ron Howard, who's usually a tv actor, did a amazing performance. His role in the doc*mentary was being filmed while he was teaching a class of FBI potentials, i guess, about the serial killer. His acting was done so well, for a second there, i almost believed that this whole thing was real, to the point where i had to recheck these events on the computer.

The second thing that bothered me was all those news reports about the killer, which i didn't think was all that necessary. I guess they just put it in because they didn't have anything else to put in that slot. Although, some of the reports were very, very necessary.

Now the serial killer's tapes is what made this film so fun to watch. If you didn't know already, this doc*mentary is based on a serial killer who kept doc*ments of his own career in carnage. Police raid his house and discover these tapes. They look through the horrible images and film, and someone uses it for a doc*mentary. Once they pass with the new reports sections, they would go back to showing sections of these tapes. During those sections, i was blown away. The scenes were very creepy and well directed, although sometimes it was too dark to see, but they were the best chilling moments I've seen in a horror film in a long time, to the point where goosebumps ran down my back. Also, the guy playing the killer was so great, that you believed that he was a real killer. If your tired of all those lame ass, save the earth, doc*mentation bullsh*t, then you should check this out. It's scary and a joy to watch.
