Wow! Where to begin? This epic and deeply moving movie has got to be the most powerful film that I have ever seen. You can actually feel the raw emotion present as you practically feel the physical anguish of the events depicted. Nearly every single scene between Christ and His Mother moved me to tears. The cast delivered so much depth that it almost seemed to transcend the art of movie making. Jim Caviezel was remarkable as Jesus. For those of Christian faith, this film will move you in ways you didn’t think possible. For movie fans, the lyrical yet shocking portrayal of The Crucifixion will jolt you to the fiber of your core. The extremely strong storytelling is just a part of the true strength of this film. The interweaving message and depth of emotion carry this masterpiece to a level that I can honestly say that I’ve never seen before on the silver screen.

After seeing this film, can anyone doubt the accuracy of the facts depicted? The images from this movie will linger in my mind and it’s message will be reinforced and stay with me forever. Now imagine seeing this actual event in person. If a movie can inspire this type of reaction, do you doubt that every detail of the real thing wouldn’t be remembered and recorded properly? Given the events that happened AFTER, it just reinforces that certainty. We are blessed to have the opportunity to view this film and the brutal yet extremely emotional sacrifice that it depicts. Thanks to Mel Gibson and the magic of the modern movie, we are the first people in over 2000 years to be able to fully appreciate the scope and magnitude of that sacrifice. The written word, teachings and our imagination all pale in comparison to the visuals on display in this film. Being raised Catholic, I was exposed to this story often but from childhood you tend to think of Jesus as more God-like then human. Even though you are taught about His human nature, the divine wins out in your mind’s eye. I really thought I fully understood the depth of His sacrifice before seeing this film. I was wrong. I was jolted by this portrayal of Christ’s humanity and by the depth of His sacrifice. Again, it was as close as you can come to actually experiencing it firsthand. I want to thank Mel Gibson for staying the course and I want to encourage everyone to see this film for themselves. Believe me, I’m not a Bible thumper but there’s something about this tale that just resonates at the core of being. Do yourself a favor and view this film with an open mind and an open heart.
