The Master: Synopsis
Universal Pictures period drama to star Philip Seymour Hoffman as a founder of a new religious organization in the 1950s. Hoffman would play "the Master," as in "master of ceremonies," a charismatic intellectual who hatches a faith-based organization that begins to catch on in America in 1952. The core is the relationship between the Master and Freddie, a twentysomething drifter who becomes the leader's lieutenant. As the faith begins to gain a fervent following, Freddie finds himself questioning the belief system he has embraced, and his mentor.

Despite all the talent in this cast, this flick was a real stinker!!

@thedude-abides I can mildly agree. Of course our opinions on "disappointment" are different, we can at least find common ground here.

@bawnian-dexeus Lol. Me too. I scrapped the review I had been working on, but it wasn't flattering, to say the least. I just think it boils down to the filmmaking. In a year filled with disappointments, which this year has certainly been (and which Les Miserables looks to be as well), no film was better shot or better executed than The Master, despite it falling short of my expectations. That's my take anyway.

@thedude-abides HA! Good thing I'm not a hired critic there. I would have been fired after posting my review

@movieweb@brian Can you add a feature where the user can select which poster they want as the image for the film?, because you guys keep making the latest poster art the main image and most of the time they newer images aren't as good as the first.
The Dark Knight Rises Poster with Bane walking away from Batman's mask and the first Master poster were easily the two best posters of the year, and instead we're faced with looking at inferior images because you continually change the links to each film to the latest poster.
If you could make it where the user could select which image they wanted from the poster art gallery, and make it so their rating for the film would show up for whatever image they selected (speaking in terms of user lists), that would alleviate this ongoing problem. Thank you.
