This is one those rare remakes that actually turned out pretty decent. It isnt a masterpiece, but its good.

First, Im so glad this movies is not PG-13 because this film is what it is. VIOLENT! I liked how the story developed though.. they kept milking it and they didnt over do it which is always a good sign. Specially in horror films. Once the viewer knows whats about to happen, well then it starts to get interesting. Good writing also.

Theres several good performances, but the one that stands out for me is Sara Paxton who plays the victim. I think she'll be someone to watch down the line. And its been years since Monica Potter makes an appearance on a good movie. Film last one was Con Air I believe ;)

Director Dennis Iliadis doesnt fall into cliche shoots.. he rather captures the torture on the characters faces good or bad. I also have always been a fan of close-up shots. These type of shots have gone extinct for some reason, but the trick to this shot is that it focuses and captures the emotions in the characters face and specially the eyes. The focus shot on just one character is really unique and should be used more in films.

Finally, if you love the gore and the violence than this is one those films you wouldnt want to miss.
