The Last Airbender: Review By Avian

I got to see this over the weekend because I just got a job at Harkin's Theatre Notrerra 14, and Harkin's do rare occations where the employees can bring their friends and family to watch a movie before it comes out. Last movie they did was Land of the Lost.

I was hyped for this movie, I truly was. I love the series, I bought all three season, and I've been madly looking foward to this movie. Unfortunately, this movie failed in almost every aspect to do the series any justice.

Airbender starts off with a montage of history of the world, re-telling of the four elements Air, Water, Earth, and Fire. The four nation once lived in peace, but one day a comet arrived, giving the Fire Nation superb strength to start a war with the rest of the wolrd. The world looked to the Avatar, only he could stop the Fire Nation, but he vanished. For one hundred years the world has been at war, all the other nations broke up, and benders hid their talents in fear of being captured by the ruthless Fire Nation. The one telling this story is Katara, and she believes the Avatar would return.

After that, the story falls apart.

Characters:

Aang - Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones. He is whiney, annoying, and Noah Ringer is a really bad actor. Aang doesn't care about his destiney, he just wants to give up until Katara hugs him once and tells him the world needs him. But that's at the end of the movie...

Katara - Who is this? This was NOT Katara. All this girl did was cry or fight with her brother (Sokka) about every little subject. Every fight she's in lasts for a few seconds because she gets thrown down every time.

Sokka - The smartest part of the movie. He's the one witht he plans and tries to keep Aang and Katara in line as the fly towards the north pole. He also gets two girls to fall in love for him, immediatly.

Zuko - Again, who is this? This Zuko is very mature and doesn't get angry once. He pleads to Aang to help him redeem his honor (capturing him), and when he becomes Fire Lord he would release Aang and grant peace to the world. Too bad Aang hits him into a wall and flies away.

Iroh - He wasn't even a character. He was just a guy in the background for the most part until the end of the movie, where he shows up our of no where at the end of the movie, attacking Zhao.

Zhao - The true main villian of the movie. He is the Fire Lord's right hand man and best friend. Zhao leads the fleet of fifteen ships (lol?) to the Northen Water Tribe at the end of the movie to kill a fish who's also the moon spirit. He didn't even know Aang was there, and tried to kill Zuko after Zuko helped Zhao throughtout the ENTIRE movie. Zuko always trused Zhoa, apparently.

Other characters: Suki and Yua both love Sokka, but Yua dies to become the new moon spirit. The cabage man does not make an appearnce. Jet, wait, where was he? NO WHERE. Pakku, teaches Aang and Katara for ONE day and then they become waterbending masters...right.

I think I explained most of the story already, but let's round it up!

Aang, Katara and Sokka flies to the Northern Water tribe to learn waterbending. Zuko attempts to capture Aang in the friendliest ways possible. Zhao was awesome until the end, where the actor decides to go crazy and ruin the character. Iroh, again, never really there. After learing waterbending, the Fire Nation attacks. The big fight lasts for fifteen minutes, two of that being action. Fire Nation is defeated by Aang's wave, and the ships and men...are never seen again. Seriously, they just disappear. The three "heroes" watch the sun rise as the movie ends.

After the credites, the Fire Lord tells Azula to hunt after the Avatar and Zuko. FORGOT TO MENTION: Zuko and Iroh make peace with our "heroes". Zuko joins them as Iroh says he will meet them in Ba Sing Sei for the next movie.

I wanted to be quick with this, because I hated the movie. It ruined Avatar: TLA for me completely. There's not one good scene in the entire movie, and the acting is either boring and sucks.

Thank you M. Night, you failed horribly.
