The House of the Devil is one of those horror movies you either like it or you hate it. Its a horror film thats a real throw back to films like Rosemary's baby and the shinning its a slow paced horror film that you wanna watch at night by yourself because it makes the film a little uneasy to watch it that way. I would only recommend the movie if you liked something like the original Omen or Rosemary's baby because its a slow horror movie but there is something going on under the surface and nothing much happens until the climax. The one thing I absolutely loved about the movie was that it takes its time setting up character and story, and that its never in a rush to get to the blood and gore witch is the main problem I have with most horror films they just rush to get to gore. That part of the movie is its strength because when you see this character get scared or chased you care for the character and when she has a Psychological break down you can see how scared she is that you can feel it to. Now I didn't really care much for the movie the first time I watched it I liked it but I did think after the first viewing that it was to slow, but after the second viewing I began to think that this movie is really much better the second time and I was able to understand and appreciate the pace of the film better. I thought the casting and the acting in this movie where all very good, and that Jocelin Danahue gave a fantastic performance as the babysitter because she has to cary the whole picture because she's in every scene, but one and thats not easy to pull off. Ti West direction in this movie is amazing he delivers some really great visuals for an indie horror film as well as entreating story.
