a horror film about horror films, replete with not only crowd-pleasing shock and gore but also funny deconstructions of the fixed cliches of slash and dash... but there is little here we have not seen before, ironic self-referentiality and all.

Chills, thrills, and gory, gory kills...

The Hills Run Red is an example of the kind of horror movie that gets a pass from forgiving genre fans, but its clumsy, obvious execution will otherwise not likely entertain (much less scare) anyone else.

...one of those movies with a promising premise and little follow-through.
