I went to see The Hangover on the opening weekend on a Sunday night at a 9:40pm showing. When the theatre sold out, I knew something interesting was happening. Fortunately, I wasn't in with a bunch of losers who had already seen the movie saying things like 'watch this' and 'i'll call you right back'. It's hard to watch a movie when you know the next thing that's going to happen is being escorted out and getting booked for beating the crap out of another loud mouth.

I didn't come in expecting much - admittedly, storylines involving Vegas don't really turn me on as they're usually hardly original. But I loved the way this film opened up with...the end. It was surprisingly original and the direction of the actors, though it could have went south quickly, turned out to be very catch. I found myself absorbed in the characters and wanting to see things turn out for them - though I wasn't exactly sure what was supposed to 'turn out' for them meant.

With good chemistry amongst the cast members, including Heather Graham who I think is underrated and has been shutout by Hollywood for years for some reason, the mysteries slowly unfolded with treat after unexpected hilarious treat happening on the screen.

Something interesting happened during the film. People laughed at the same time and guffawed with disgust at the same time (when they were supposed to). And when it was all over, most stood and clapped at the titles.

It's been nearly a decade since I've seen that happen with a comedy. For once in your life, this will be a hangover you'll actually be able to enjoy!
