Leone's finest work turned the spagetti western from pulp fiction into art; The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly marries its structure to its themes and produces something genuinely fascinating.

The varying levels of moral ambiguity in its title characters is interesting, as "good", "bad", and "ugly" all want the same thing, to find a buried treasure. Eastwood's character is brilliantly unadmitting, doing most of his acting through his facial expressions, giving little indication to his intentions.

Leone's use of the camera is innovative, giving complete focus to the attention of his characters and allowing the audience to be surprised by what comes from outside the frame.

And who could get away with talking about this movie without mentioning Ennio Morricone's consuming score, one of the most memorable and recognizable of all time.

A fascinating film that engrosses the viewer like few are able to.
