'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' Review By SherlockHolmes2009
Led by powerful performances from Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is easily one of the best films of the year
The Screenplay by Steven Zaillian shows how great of a writer Zaillian is. Zaillian is able to stay true to the novel and show these 2 troubled people, 2 similar people coming together and solving a 40 year old murder. He is able to take these 2 stories and bring them together perfectly and Zaillian deserves another Oscar.
The Acting here is nothing short of amazing. Everyone who came into this film brought powerhouse performances and deserves recognition but the real standouts here are our 2 leading stars: Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomkvist and Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander. Daniel Craig gave a performance that I must say was on par with his performance in Casino Royale. In Dragon Tattoo, Craig plays a man who has been beaten down by a powerful man but is given a chance to get back at the man by solving this case but slowly forgets about revenge and desperately tries to solve the case and I must say Craig could not have done any better than this. Now while Daniel gave a great performance, Rooney Mara gave a better one as Salander. The emotion emitted by Mara is so believable that you can feel all the pain in her eyes and Mara is eye popping in this film with all the tattoos and black make up and Mara deserves an Oscar for her performance. Another great thing about both of them is their screen time together. The chemistry between Craig and Mara is beautiful as their 2 damaged characters find comfort in each other and act as if their a real couple and shows how good Craig and Mara are.
The Directing done by David Fincher is just as good as his other films. In Dragon Tattoo he captures the snowy scenes beautiful and at the same time making it suspenseful with shots of Daniel Craig alone in the snow. He captures every scene with easy effort and has given us a great film along with his cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth.
The Visuals in the film were amazing. The mood set by the film is dark in every scene and like I said the scene with Daniel Craig surrounded by snow is haunting and Jeff Cronenweth deserves some recognition for his haunting cinematography.
Overall I give this film 10/10 stars. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is hands down one of the best films of the year and is a must see before the year ends. It is suspenseful and haunting and I look forward to seeing this film at the Oscars.
