I BELIEVE IT COULD BE DONE IN LESS THAN 6 MOVIES BECAUSE ALOT OF THE FIRST FEW BOOKS CONTAIN ALOT OF MATERIAL FROM THE PREVIOUS BOOKS ANDALOT OF EXPLAINING WHO THE CHARACTERS ARE. IN FILMS THAT CAN BE DONE MORE QUICKLY-LESS PAGES.

I do believe that this would probably be the hardest cinema project to date; however, I do also think that it could be done. On other sites I have seen people comment on potential cast members for specific roles. I am not a fan of their choices for the "young" people. I suppose that most are thinking of the characters as they are later in the series, but honestly, in the first few books, characters like (Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwene, Elayne, and even Nynaeve) are in their late teens or early twenties. Any potential casting should certainly take that into account. Although many young actors/actresses do not yet have the so called depth needed for these complex characters, let us not forget that each character progresses throughout the series. They don't start out serious, tormented, sceming, and powerful - realistically, they (except Elayne) are a bunch of young adults from a farming community...the deep emotions and personal struggles come later. Also, there are quite a few characters in the series, so I would recommend that the majority of the cast (main characters) be unknowns, with a few bigger names here and there to increase the draw from diverse demographics. If any directer does decide to take on this major project, I say "good luck and don't screw up". Obviously no director is going to picture the movie exactly as I can while reading the books; all fans of the book series are bound to be disappointed with the end movie result in some aspect, because the movie makers can't read all of our minds at the same time! Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy is an excellent example of how an epic series can be turned to movies. Sure, we lost some favorite scenes from the books, but Jackson really got the plot and the overall flavor of Tolkien's world which made the films enjoyable.

All these valid points were made preceding Peter Jackson's run at The Lord of the Rings. It cant be done, it's too big, too much material for cinema. Even Tolkien said this. Pete did a pretty good job. While i agree that there is no way in hell the WOT could be condensed to a trilogy I believe it could be achieved in 6 - 9 films. Thats a pretty high bar to set but I think that with the right director and an honest approach most of the story could be properly shown. There are countless characters and story lines that, while entertaining, are not nessissary to the fullfillment of the overall theme and could be elliminated or cut to their bare minimum. I'm just as skeptical of Hollywoods pathetic attempts at other Fantasy but they are getting better. Dramatic aproaches to fantasy and science fiction stories like Watchmen, Batman and The Walking dead are examples of how it can be done properly. Lets just hope they dont sell out. The only way it will work is to follow the mold that Jackson tooled. Respect to the heart of the story and its most importent characters and A willingness to create what would have to be the biggest fantasy epic in motion picture history. If done properly The Wheel of Time could make Star Wars look like spaceballs. Good luck. Don't screw it up.

I am really sceptical about this being made into a film. 14 books have been written for this epic and there is no way that you can condense that into three films even if you put the character of Rand as the sole focus of the film and have no other story arc to follow. The idea of how these films would work on a visual and narrative level just elude me and I cannot see it working very well. Their is just to much to put into only three movies it would need at least 7 with everything condensed and altered.
