The Expendables brought action stars from every direction into one movie and sparked the interest of many people! After the success of the first, The Expendables 2 added a few more amazing action stars and intrigued everyone again! The film taps into that classic 80's - 90's action-packed style that we all used to love back in the day!
Story wise, if you look at the quality of story against the greatest films of all time, yeah it is a little weak... But, people have got to go see this film with an open mind as to what exactly it is... These films never claimed to go after oscars, but rather grab onto our imaginations of what it would be like if all the greatest action stars of all time appeared in the same movie! On that level, the film definitely delivers!
The acting is actually very well done on almost everyone's part! Jean Claude really portrays a great, badass bad guy! From the moment you see him, you know this is a man that can destroy you, and not think twice about it! Liam Hemsworth really brings that sort of stage acting to this film... He really is the emotional release in this movie, and it's not long before you get it from him! This young lad has a huge career ahead of him. The Hemsworth brothers are truly impressive! Sylvester Stallone even did a great job of not being monotone throughout the film... He shows emotion a number of times! I was highly impressed! Bruce Willis is Bruce Willis and will continue to act amazing in everything that he does... I don't need to touch him too much in this one! I would the only truly weak actor/actress was Nan Yu... Very flat lined her role... But thanks to her role, it did open the door for female action stars from the day to join!
Directing, I know they had to have some fun with this one... The script alone must have been a blast to create! All the one line puns, jokes about all their previous movies and even Chuck Norris making a Chuck Norris joke, it had to have been one of the most fun projects ever! They also do a great job of getting everyone about the same equal amount of camera time! The only two I wish I could have seen more was Jet Li (which I was highly disappointed was only in the opening of the film) and Jean Claude! I also wanted a more epic final show down between Stallone and Jean Claude... While it was great to see he still has his high kicks down, the fight was over way too fast!
The visuals were the same classic visuals we expected with an Expendables film... Lots of heads and body parts flying everywhere, blood, and very well done fight choreography!
Now as in overall view of the film as a film I had to give it a 3.5... It an average film when you look at quality of film as it stacks against the greatest films of all time, but as far as enjoyment is concerned, I will give it 5 star... You just need have your mind open that this is about all these guys getting together to make their films with everyone before they pass... giving fans the ultimate tribute to the classic films they have given us over the years!
I hope everyone enjoyed my review! I am open for discussion!

@crypt Yeah, there is a difference in the films when they were written to be a sequel piece of work and when they were written as a single film... and it showed in this series!

@mcleve02 I think, but I think it is because 4 was a bad transition from 3. See 1-3 are semi stand alone. 4-7 flow well I think... Besides, it was originally going to be 8 when they started getting higher in numbers.

@crypt Each film felt very unconnected from the others. While from one to two it was decent, but it seemed to get worse from each one. It was not originally written to be more than 3 movies... and it shows... that I think is where people are coming from. They seem to be more of stand alone films than a series... if that makes sense as to where we are coming from

@mcleve02 Well, the others were more gore, however they still (even though not as good as part 1) had a great story. Which is why I dont get how people can say that series is pointless, because that is one of the most complex horror series out there. Its insane, all the twists it takes. I love them.

@crypt I don't really count those as horror films though... The original wasn't really made to scare you... just mess with your brain... which is why I loved that one so much! We had our gruesome and an amazing story... something, I felt, all the other films fell way short on...

@crypt I thought there was much improvement on their part from the first to this! haha It was satisfactory... It was just really short... I wanted that classic 90's showdown... like Commando... That was an epic, long ass fight! Hell even the final fight in Lethal Weapon was longer!

@mcleve02 Well, I agree! Although i thought the fight between Stallone and Van Damme was satisfactory... and the acting sucked... all of it in my opinion :P but still, well written review!!

@huntsman It actually is better than the first... a much better story for sure... But like I said in my review, you have got to watch the movie knowing what it is! haha

@mcleve02: Good review, and in my opinion a more honest one. I've seen a lot of 5 star reviews for this film saying it's one of the best action films ever. I only gave the first film 3 stars. Is the sequel that much better? I highly doubt it. I'm going to see this film, but most likely at a discount theater or when it comes out at Redbox.

The action in the finale is slender between Sly but that death he delivers to Hemsworth with that swift kick got me- i felt connected to these characters- Sly has nothing to whimper about with this as West does the best job ever recreating 80's-90's action fiesta- Arnold is just Arnold- Willis i felt was different from being just, well Willis, top knoch fully realised review- thank you im online with someone else :)
