The Dictator: Review By Forrestgump1

Sacha Baron Cohen is at again this film is so crude, gross and extremely offensive. Its also one of the funniest films so far this year. Although not as funny as Borat and running a very short run time. I still enjoyed it & was laughing 80% of the time

"The Dictator" the latest adventure from the very subversive and vindictive head of Sacha Baron Cohen. The Dictator for starters is way funnier than the terrible and hard to watch Bruno, but not as funny as Borat. But fans of Borat will more than likely enjoy this film. Dictator has already sparked much controversy and the marketing is top notch (as it always is for a Cohen film). Bringing back long time director Larry Charles (Bruno & Borat) the pair really know how to add the raunchiness and humor while at the same time being over the top disgusting but while at the same time killing me with laughter. The thing that really separates Dictator from Borat is its scripted. While it was still ten times better than Bruno (that wasn't hard to do). I Mean script is good and solid but its when people are unsuspecting that makes the humor more funnier. Now Dictator is still funny as far as 'scripted' terms go. I could not see any actor portraying this character, why? Because every other actor would more than likely be afraid to make and crack the jokes Cohen does so fluently. I mean people there are jokes about 9/11 and i laughed and do i feel guilty? sure..but that is the point. I mean the films truly really never holds anything back..the film opens with "In Memory of Kim Jong II" right there that shows you what your in store for.

Story: The heroic story of a North African dictator who risks his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed

Story: (4/5) - The story in a movie like this is always funny. Especially when the film is mocking terrorists and cruel harsh dictators. Im actually surprised that Baron Cohen has not been killed yet for the tensions he seems to be creating. But this story is pure gold and its the movie that audiences love to see. Cohen co-wrote the script and he did a good job at giving him a part that really he could do anything with. Acting: (4.5/5) Pretty much when Sacha Baron Cohen is the headline for a movie you should probably watch out..kids this is not Hugo. But i really did love his performance there must have been so many awkward moments when filming this movie (one could imagine). There really is no solid cast in this movie. Anna Faris was annoying (as always) so i felt they should have found a more suitable female lead. But hey i was not in the casting department. Direction (4/5) Larry Charles has been a long time collaborator with Cohen and has pretty much directed most of Cohen's "R" rated films. My only problem was the short run time of 83mins i expected a little bit more..and felt the film was going at a rush pace..with very little character development. My other fear was that everything 'funny' was shown in the promos. While that is true there still is plenty of 'New' humor shown that is good enough for you to go see it in theaters.

Overall: (4/5) - Sacha Baron Cohen is at again this film is so crude, gross and extremely offensive. Its also one of the funniest films so far this year. Although not as funny as Borat and running a very short run time. I still enjoyed it & was laughing 80% of the time. The script is good and Cohen is even better. After the drag Bruno this was a nice and breath of relief. I had no doubt that this movie was going to suck. But i had to be on edge somewhat in case it did go the Bruno route. Another worry was the trailers made it look funny and it was funny just not as 'funny' as the promos make it look to be. But for being the first R rated comedy of the summer and defiantly the most controversial. So audiences should be spreading good word of mouth. I mean if your going to see this film, you should already know what your getting yourself into. But in case you don't check the R rating and brace yourself. Because just when you think the movie is going to do something gross..well chances are it probably will. But then it takes the concept it turns it upside down (there is a birth scene) that i'm not going to talk about..but needless to say i was gagging and crying of laughter..my chest started to hurt. Go see The Dictator its worth it..by far.
