The Day the Earth Stood Still: Synopsis
"The Day the Earth Stood Still" is 20th Century Fox's contemporary reinvention of its 1951 classic. Keanu Reeves portrays Klaatu, an alien whose arrival on our planet triggers a global upheaval. As governments and scientists race to unravel the mystery behind the visitor's appearance, a woman (Jennifer Connelly) and her young stepson get caught up in his mission - and come to understand the ramifications of his being a self-described "friend to the Earth."

More like: The day the Earth stood Stupid! Who ever green lighted the release of this joke of a film, should be taken out and shot! The Robert Wise original still has it's emotional punch! This one deserves to stay in the discount bin along with 1998's Tristar Godzilla

Personally, I've been waiting for YEARS for a remake of this movie and I'm glad that someone finally got around to doing it. Like some of the rest of you, I have a hard time picturing Keaneau as Klatuu, but my main desire is to see them do a super bad-ass Gort, one that can really make you believe that the robots can vaporize n entire planet - no guys in rubber suits like in the first one - and I think with today's CGI technology. that's certainly possible.
Now, if someone will just do a really good remake of 'Forbidden Planet', I'll be in Sci-Fi heaven! LOL!

It's bad enough they're doing a remake of one of the truly classic sci-fi films of all time, but with Keanu Reeves in the lead? I'm sorry, but the man couldn't act his way out of a paper bag if he was being pulled by a towtruck. He hit his professional peak with Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. A far, far better choice would have been someone like Liam Neeson.
