The premise of this film is that aliens have come to Earth to destroy the humans because they are destroying the planet. That much we can tell from the trailer, and that's all there is to this movie.

There really isn't much else to take from this other than the special effects, which are fun to watch, but the best of these can also be seen in the trailer.

The characters played by Jennifer Connelly and Jayden Smith really don't bring very much to the film. It's a weak attempt at bringing some emotion to the scenario through character development and family drama.

Keanu Reeves was a great casting choice for an alien in human skin. His awkward monotone voice and expressionless movement work well in convincing us that he is hardly human.

The message of the movie is the idea that humans are hopelessly destroying the planet. However, the threat comes in the form of an alien invasion, which makes it difficult for us to relate.

In the end, it is a spectacle, and little more.
