In recent movie history, Marvel has been known as the comic company with the superior superhero genre films as its counterpart, Warner Bros./ DC Comics has struggled in that regard. Well, all that has changed with the Dark Knight a masterful sequel to Batman Begins directed by Christopher Nolan.

First things first, Heath Ledger deserves an Oscar for his role as the Joker. He gave one of the best performances ever for a villain and for a character. I couldn't even recognize the fact that it was ledger at all. Plus, the scene at Gotham General hospital is one of the best scenes ever put to celluloid.

Also, I LOVED the fact that Nolan did not provide an origin to the Joker's madness. Instead, he portrated him as a crazy madman in the vein of a John Wayne Gacy or Ted Bundy.

Everything about this film is nearly flawless and with Watchmen coming out in March and rumors of a Mark Millar written Superman, 2008-2009 may be the year that DC take the superhero helm from Marvel.
