I thoroughly enjoyed this one! I have not seen the original so it's impossible for me to compare the two. The only thing that disappointed me was the lack of gore. One scene in particular it was really obvious that blood spills were CGI, that always bothers me. I liked how fast paced this movie was, it started off great and I can't recall being bored, it was actually a stressful movie in the sense that no one had control of the "situation" and how defenseless we are compared to the military/government. It wasn't a stereotypical horror movie with corny lines or really dumb decisions made by the characters which was a relief because I really didn't know what to expect going into the theatre. I figured it was going to be a bunch of zombies running around and was pleasantly surprised by not seeing the undead eat people but rather plotting how to kill their own families. The pitchfork scene really had my heart racing, this one definitely had some unforgettable imagery. I tend to like everything I see but it does take a lot to appeal to me and this one certainly did that. I don't think the trailers gave away too much and there were plenty of awesome scenes in between what you're shown in the preview. If I could sum it up I would say it's pretty much 30 Days of Night without vampires and instead soulless murderers. It was a good time.
