The Brave One spends most of the movie setting itself up as a taut psycho-drama about the definition and the limits of justice, and is pretty fascinating while doing it. Unfortunately, it loses most of its depth as it plunges closer and closer to its typically silly Hollywood ending. That said, director Neil Jordan uses some clever stylistic tricks to capture the psychology of the main character, and not only is Terrence Howard's performance great (as always), but this movie boasts Jodie Foster's best performance in years.
