In 1970, Richard Matheson, who is best known for writing I Am Legend. The book!! Not the movie!! Matheson also wrote a little short story called Button, Button. It was adapted into an episode of the 1980's version of The Twilight Zone. I remember that episode and I enjoyed it. I always wanted to see more of that episode, because i felt more of the mystery of the episode could be uncovered. Begging for a movie based on the book to come out, I anxiously waited for the theatrical release of The Box. Little did I know, this would be one of the worst movies of 2009.

The Box stars Cameron Diaz and James Marsden, and it's directed by Richard Kelly, the director of the most overrated movie in the universe, which is none other than Donnie Darko. Seriously, a movie that just has this weird dreamy looking affect and tries to use that to fascinate movie lovers and sadly succeeds baffles me. Anyway, Donnie Darko has been critically acclaimed by many people so who cares what I think. Unfortunately, it would be the only time you would hear 'Richard Kelly and good movie' together. Southland Tales and now this garbage just shows that this guy is a one hit wonder or an every other 10 year director, where he has one good movie every decade.

The movie focuses on a suburban couple with a young boy, who suddenly get a wooden box sent to their door. A few hours later, a disfigured stranger shows up to deliver a message that the box promises to reward them with 1 million dollars to whom ever pushes the button on the box. However, if they press the box, someone they don't know will die. Now, you know what happens next. Someone presses the damn box and all boredom breaks loose. They should have did me a favor and not have anyone press the damn button and there would be no movie, which would have been great, but no someone just had to press the damn box.

Every actor and actress, even the minor actors, hell even the actors and actresses that just showed half of there faces on screen, delivered wonderful performances. If there was an award category for best cast, this whole cast would definitely win. So, the reason why this movie is so freaking terrible and atrocious has nothing to do with anything, not even the visuals, because those were great. All the blame, every last drop, should be put on Richard Kelly himself. This movie was just absolutely boring and dreadful. What makes me upset about this even more is that before this movie was released I heard an interview with Kelly saying that he would combine his independent film making style with this Hollywood mainstream style. At first, I could see where he was coming from by saying that, but now, I know that was just an excuse to take away from him saying that he made a bad movie, which he did.

If you haven't seen the Box, good for you. If you have, take it easy it's all good. You'll get over a bad movie like this. You guys remember that music video channel, The Box. That was a great channel. The first time I heard Papa Roach's Last Resort. With a good show like that, it's sad that now it has to share the same title as this hunk of sh*t.
