The American: Synopsis
Academy Award winner George Clooney stars in the title role of this suspense thriller. As an assassin, Jack (played by Mr. Clooney) is constantly on the move and always alone. After a job in Sweden ends more harshly than expected for this American abroad, Jack retreats to the Italian countryside. He relishes being away from death for a spell as he holes up in a small medieval town. While there, Jack takes an assignment to construct a weapon for a mysterious contact, Mathilde (Thekla Reuten). Savoring the peaceful quietude he finds in the mountains of Abruzzo, Jack accepts the friendship of local priest Father Benedetto (Paolo Bonacelli) and pursues a torrid liaison with a beautiful woman, Clara (Violante Placido). Jack and Clara’s time together evolves into a romance, one seemingly free of danger. But by stepping out of the shadows, Jack may be tempting fate.

I rarely do not finish a movie. I'll even watch the worst movies from start to finish for the benefit of the doubt. I tried to watch this show 3 times. Fell a sleep twice and shut it off the 3rd. A 4th attempt is not in my future. If I see it on TV in the future I'll most likely turn the channel.

Perverse
What was so "Suspenseful" about this movie? Why is it labelled a "Thriller"? Won't deny this a drama, but other than the Ocean series, and maybe the Peacemaker, George Clooney should seriously consider retiring early. I don't seem to recall any recent movies of his which I liked. I went to see this on a dare and all I saw was him staring out the window, or him looking out in the horizon brooding or contemplating. Should have been called "The Pondering American".

Just waisted $7.00 and two hours of my life at tightwad tuesday at my local theatre..
I had "Men who stare at goats" as the worst movie I had ever seen and this dog now comes in 2nd worst.... I wont waste any more money on any further Clooney films......
