This is one of those few movies in which the newer version is better than the original. Those who know the history of The Alamo know how this film will end. So why would you want to see this right? There's plenty of reasons why. One of them is the directing of John Lee Hanc*ck, which is perfectly portrayed here. The direction is very impressive with all from a musical scene to a loud pounding battle sequence. Another reason is the great performances by Billy Bob Thornton who plays Davy Crockett like if he was born for the role! Dennis Quaid is PERFECT as Sam Houston and Jason Patric as James Bowie is very good here. Patrick Wilson is also very moving as William Travis. Four great performances with excellent directing makes this picture as great as any. Watch for an effective performance by Emilio Echeverria as Santa Ana as well.
