The A-Team: Review By ParkWilliams

The A-Team...rarely tries to be anything it's not. It is shamelessly stupid, but thoroughly entertaining... Simply put, I love it when a plan comes together.

In the year 2010 a team of highly talented film actors portrayed a team of United States Rangers in an action-comedy entitled The A-Team. It's rare that a classic television show translates really well into a movie. Much like Get Smart, The A-Team is carried in part by the overwhelming sense of nostalgia. Although I haven't really watched a lot of The A-Team television series I can certainly understand that it's not so much the writing, the action, the plot, nor the presentation that really makes the film work, it's the simple fact that these characters are on screen once more. The fact that the whole team is back together again is something compelling in and of itself.

The A-Team movie itself is built upon pure entertainment value. Aside from short bits of dialogue attempting to add a deeper narrative on violence and morality, rather pointlessly attempting to capitalize on B.A.'s mohawk, the movie really revolves around action, entertainment, and comedy. It's not so much good writing as it is the extremely well presented characters that made the movie so watchable. Despite some sloppy editing the action really pulls you onto the edge of your seat simply by the humorous over exaggeration of it all. There is something about seeing such far fetched ideas executed with such a ridiculous sense of normality that makes for a very satisfying experience. The film doesn't try to be realistic, but that's one its best features, it rarely tries to be anything it's not. It is shamelessly stupid, but thoroughly entertaining.

Though the critics may shake their fists at this movie, I simply think they've forgotten that some movies really are just there so we can watch stuff blow up. Yes, The A-Team is ridiculous and quirky, but it's not a movie meant to change lives. The A-Team is simply for fun, and it truly and entirely works for that. Simply put, I love it when a plan comes together.
