That's My Boy: Review By Forrestgump1

By far the grossest and just plain WRONG! comedy so far this year. Adam Sandler and Samberg's pairing was perfect. While the acting was iffy and story was childish. It appeals to most audiences and is still a funny romp well worth the price of admission

Adam Sandler...Adam Sandler..where to begin. Adam Sandler has a certain brand of humor that pretty much appeals to everyone (playing an adult..stupid and immature). Trying to cash in on his Billy Madison days here. That's My Boy is his latest attempt to connect with audiences on a low and dumb level. While adding Andy Samberg to the mix..with tons of crude language and over the top raunchy humor, That's My Boy takes the cake as Sandler's dirtiest film, that is needless to say by far not his funniest. While i typically have a soft spot for Sandler (i did find enjoyment in Jack and Jill...i know thats how bad it is). I pretty much like anything if Sandler is in it, because i grew up with his films..Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison and of course Waterboy. All films that i still can quote to this day. While this comedy does not have many quotes..rather than memorable moments people are sure not forget (believe me). This also is surprise because it separates longtime collaborator Dennis Dugan from the directing chair. But the positive side? (yes there are many). That's My Boy is dare i say it? Funny. I look at a film like this from Audience member perspective and my packed theater was enjoying this film, the crude humor was a little way to much at times, but there were some running gags that played well throughout the film and the addition of Samberg was a good idea although he still has a longway to go in his career.

Story: (3.5/5) - Now for one thing next to understand. Sandler taking the role of the self-obsessed and alcoholic Donny Berger gets his teacher pregnant when his just a teenager 13 or 14 years old. Berger rose to instant stardom in the 80s and was loved by many particularly because he was living every young boys fantasy of having sex with there incredibly hot teacher. This of course would never happen in real life (i would think). Well the kid ..Donny names Hon-Solo ..but has changed his name to Todd Peterson (Samberg). The story picks up round 30 years later when Donny is being pursued by the IRS and is headed to jail if he does not come up with $43,000. - This story is very...different and interesting. It would be nice for just a quick second if this was plausible..but its nice to dream for a change. Acting (3/5) No actor really stood out here than the rest. Samberg was pretty funny with the role he was given and Sandler well..he is Sandler..his vocabulary in this film only consist..of Sex...Booze..and the F-bomb. The whole time he holds this annoying slur in his voice and you can barley understand him, but Sandler gets a pass ..because he can do that..if any other actor tried to accomplish that..there career would be where Sandler is..nowhere. The addition also to Vanilla Ice was well creative on the writers part..and although his career has gone nowhere..he still was funny in this film. Directing (3/5) - While ditching longtime pal Dennis Dugan ..its a major improvement over Jack And Jill.

Overall: (3.5/5) - By far the grossest and just plain WRONG! comedy so far this year. Adam Sandler and Samberg's pairing was perfect. While the acting was iffy and story was childish. It appeals to most audiences and is still a funny romp well worth the price of admission. Audience should find the enjoyment in this film..as i did. There are many instances where the gags get taken to an extreme and the conclusion? is far from normal. In fact you might cringe on the sight. With the material given to the actors ... i suppose the actors and producers get some leeway. But i also want to give credit for actually earning its R rating and not settling for one. I hate when..'Should-Be' PG13 films add an extra Fbomb then they get there R. That's My Boy is not a family fun film..by any-means so you need to leave the young-ones at home. So if my respect goes down a little bit for finding the heart and enjoyment this movie wanted the audience to find..then so be it. The film though some minor complaints. Ran almost 2hours!. I could not believe that?. For a Sandler film that is surprise. So this film is not a classic "Hangover" type film. Nor will it ever achieve that status or rank of approval from film-goers. Good comedies are truly hard to come by and this R rated one..should do the trick.

    @skywise -- No problems, we learn something new every day. I heard if you got the "Official Review" stamp, you can edit your reviews at any time(instead of the 24 hours range), but I'm not completely sure if that's true.

    @corey -- Care to clarify?

    @skywise -- I've been going on this site for a while, but I've only been a member for a little over a year now, and the "delete" feature has been present the entire time. If you move your cursor on your post, it will lightly highlight your post and you'll have the option to delete it. It would be awesome if they added a "edit" feature, wouldn't it?

    I know some people are finding it funny. Me, and that other couple that walked out after 10 minutes? Not so much...
