Christian Bale was good in the Machinist and Rescue Dawn, but between this and the Batman machine, he's becoming a complete franchise film whor*. And McG? Bone me with a chainsaw. This guy isn't James Cameron's sack lint. What an awful movie. Too many different robots. Too many characters with no real input. They have great actors like Michael Ironside and Moon Bloodgood featuring for like two minutes and then... you think "what happened to where that plot was going?". Just plain awful. There is absolutely no expression or heart in this at all. Everyone has had too much botox and is taking themselves oh so seriously. Lets hope it (the franchise) ends here... please for the love of all that is sacred. There is a great helo scene in the beginning of the film and a funny from an Arnie Terminator later in the film that are almost distracting from the overall lack of quality or anything that resembles barely decent work. Pffffft! At least JJ Abrams didn't screw up this years other big sci-fi release. See Star Trek. Don't waste your hard earned on this crap.

(slysnide) The problem with McG's theory is that the core Terminator business is the die-hard fans and he messed up by stepping all over it with inconsistencies while trying to make it his own. Frankly, he should have called it something else, like just "Salvation", to sever it from the other three films completely. While I didn't look into the story line as far as you did, I was literally yawning and making excuses to remain and watch it to its obvious sequel-inspired-dialogue conclusion. I was actually primed like a racer at the block awaiting the end of it.

agreed about lack of originality. plus it breaks the "T1" (1984) version of how Kyle Reese met John Connor...dramatically. Kyle seemed to be psychologically affected by his experiences in the slave camps he talked about in "T1" but it was completely contradicted in this movie, where he's only stuck in a clean box for a couple days at most, and is then rescued by John. Very meager and is worse than the original outline for that story, despite the fact that it was a good action flick for me, just not for this series...hence why McG made it clear that he's set out to make something new, and not too nostalgic for die hard fans of the originals.
