Taken 2: Review By Forrestgump1

While i have the utmost respect for Liam Neeson & he truly is a badass. But Taken 2 truly is mess. Its basically a re-hash of the first outing and is nowhere near as entertaining either. I'm going to say Rent It just because i loved the first one so much

"If you let my daughter go now, i will not find you, i will not pursue you. But if you don't i will find you and i will kill you". - Those are some of the most cinematic moments in film history. This little film called Taken came out a few years ago with a lead that umm nobody knew. Liam Neeson? who the hell is that. Now hes basically considered an action god. Quickly becoming this generations Chuck Norris. The first Taken , blew me away, its honestly one of my favorite action films of all time. I had no expectations for that film at all. It was fantastic in every way imaginable. Being just a few action movies that i have ever given an A+. Now of course when i heard a Taken 2 was in the mix, i was pleased and eager to see my man Bryan Mills kick some ass yet again, but i was afraid it was going to resemble the first to much, (much like Hangover II, best example) - they pretty much just changed the setting and it was basically a re-hash of the 1st one, but Taken 2 had the potential, Hangover II was actually very funny and i enjoyed it quite a bit to be honest. Taken 2 i was willing to give a chance, because i loved that movie so much. I was ready to accept this film into my life. So i went to a 10pm showing Thursday night for this movie, because i was so excited and just ready to be blown away yet again. Well that is where the tragedy stated. Taken 2 was bland, boring and had no wheels to go. It has some newer interesting elements that were kind of cool, but the filmmakers really did not try to add anything new to the table and instead this film was honestly not worth it. I love Liam Neeson and i loved Taken, but honestly Taken really never needed a sequel.

Story: (2/5) - The film picks up in another far away country where funerals. Not too long after the first one. Where fathers and mothers are grieving for there lost ones, their sons. Bryan Mills killed them in his attempt to save his daughter and now they want blood. Bryan Mills is now just kind of going about everyday life, pretty much being the overprotective father you don't want. He takes his family to east temple for getaway spring break. But the madman seeking revenge are already hot on their trail. Bryan Mills is sprung into action, when eventually him and his wife are taken. Now enlisting in the help of his daughter to find their location and help his escape. To bring down these crazed people and make sure their out of there lives for good.

Now the story seemed a little different in some minor ways, i was confident and happy with the fact it was not facing exact plot for plot from the first outing, instead his daughter would help save him, a little different yes, a revenge plot. Well i guess there is basically no originality in the script what so ever, plus there is a different director in the chair, this time around. Pretty much all the ingredients where in the wrong place. The action sequences were honestly terrible. There were no sound effects it was just silent, there were no backs breaking no necks, nadda it was just one after another disappointing really yet tragic. The only salvageable thing the film had, any "redeeming" qualities was in fact the lead of our main macho Liam Neeson. (4/5) - ever since hes done the first Taken, his radar and credibility as an actor has skyrocketed. While i was not a fan of the clash of the titan films nor Unknown, he murdered it in the Grey which was a great film indeed. The film pretty much says the same thing every time, you simply just don't mess with Liam Neeson. Directing: (1/5) - the direction was totally different this outing and it proved to not work in favor at all. It was not where it needed to be and for that i was dissapointed, yet again.

Overall? :(2.5/5) - While i have the utmost respect for Liam Neeson & he truly is a badass. But Taken 2 truly is mess. Its basically a re-hash of the first outing and is nowhere near as entertaining either. I'm going to say Rent It just because i loved the first one so much. That is the jist really, i loved Taken so much and i have great respect for Liam Neeson so i'm gonna go against my better judgement, its no use running to theaters to see this dud, because its honestly a waste of your money. Liam Neeson is a great actor hes a solid actor and deserves more big named action movies, because when ever you say his name it truly structs accord. He truly is a badass and i love him. The main problem was Taken 2 was a sequel, i'm pretty sure nobody wanted or needed, fox just saw how well received the first one did and green lit one. This sequel was not needed and they needed to leave it alone so we could live in peace, because honestly what are the chances of this happening all the time. If the first one had not been a 5 star movie in my book and truly an amazing action movie, i would not even be batting an eye lash at this film right now. Whatever the case, this film was made, see if you want, my personal opinion would be wait it out for DVD.

@skywise don't forget Darkman!!! He has been around for a very long time!

@forrestgump1 Yeah, that was the one thing that worried me about this film is that it was going to be the same sort of thing we saw in the first... Well written review!

ooooh come on, everyone knew Liam before Taken. Its just that nobody expected the old man to be a bad ass action star.

Damn I remeber him from Excalibur and Krull and that is going waaay back. But Schindler's List, Rob Roy and Michael Collins cemented him as a brilliant actor...and then there is Star War.

Perhaps I just didnt pick up on your sarcasm?

Anyway, great review. Sorry to hear it was such a mess but I didn't expect much from this one.
