Superman Returns: Synopsis
"Even though you've been raised as a human being you're not one of them.
They can be a great people, Kal-El. They wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way.
For this reason above all - their capacity for good - I have sent them you... my only son." - Jor-El
Superman - born on a planet which has long since died - has been raised by adoptive parents on the Kent farm in Kansas. The young boy Kal-El is renamed Clark Kent, and though he has grown up among humans, he is not one of them. Under Earth's yellow sun, he can do things humans can only dream of, but to co-exist with them he must live a dual life as mild, unassuming Clark Kent, secretly transforming into the Man of Steel when the world cries out for him.
But now, the world's crises have gone unheeded for five long years since Superman's mysterious disappearance. Without him, crime has risen in the city of Metropolis and beyond; that's not even counting the future destructive acts of Lex Luthor, who has been sprung from prison with the specific intent of using Superman's technological secrets for his own personal gain and glory.
Lois Lane, star reporter for the Daily Planet and the love of Superman's life, has moved on since Superman left without a word. She has even won a Pulitzer Prize for her essay, "Why the World Doesn't Need Superman." Lois has other issues to contend with - she is now engaged to the editor's nephew and has a young son to look after.
But for Superman, the long search for his place in the universe ends back at the Kent farm, among the only family he has ever known. His destiny lies in Metropolis, where one look in Lois's eyes tells him that this place, among the flawed but ultimately good people of Earth, is his true home.
And with Lex's plan coming to fruition mere hours after his return, the world will never need Superman more than it does now.
Warner Bros. Pictures presents Superman Returns, a soaring new chapter in the saga of one of the world's most beloved Super Heroes, directed by Bryan Singer (X2: X-Men United, X-Men, The Usual Suspects). An extraordinary new vision that showcases groundbreaking visual effects technology, Superman Returns tells an intimate story of one man's unattainable love and struggle to belong against a backdrop of vast scope and scale, set in a modern-day Metropolis.
Superman Returns stars newcomer Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth (Beyond the Sea, Blue Crush), James Marsden (X2: X-Men United, The Notebook), Frank Langella (HBO's Unscripted), Academy Award-winner Eva Marie Saint (North By Northwest), Parker Posey (Best in Show), Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle), Sam Huntington (Detroit Rock City), and Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey (Beyond the Sea, American Beauty, The Usual Suspects).

I agree completely John, I thought all involved did a fine job and the casting of Routh & Spacey worked for me and Bosworth was fine as well, though I do love Erica Durance from Smallville as the best Lois Lane ever! This was simply a fun film to watch imo. Sure it could have been better but that goes for TONS of movies I've enjoyed! No way was this the worst superhero movie ever made, that's just idiotic but TRLL has every right to think so, even if he's completely wrong imo.

As a Superman Movie it was great - had most things needed for a superman movie and even thought the main flaw was that we needed a new bad guy doesnt get rid of fact we had superman doing most things i wish to have seen in ages...which have never been done. Bullet through his eye being one of them and lifting half a boat. very well done. Story wise tricky and not really one i am a fan of because superman just cant have a kid...YET! need some time before that. alround a good movie. DC FTW

This movie was decent at best, but there were alot of flaws IMHO. First, I didnt like Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane. She is just way too skinny and too young to be Lois Lane. Second, the way Lois' role was written in this chapter. In Donner's Superman movies, Kidder portrayed her perfect. She chain-smoked, was a smart-ass, anti-authority and she ate greasy cheeseburgers. The way she was written in this version (eating Tofu or veggie burgers WTF)is too Liberal, snooty elitist, PETA non burger eating wimp. And whats up with the, "Does he still stand for truth, justice, all that stuff."? Superman is an AMERICAN hero, not some worldy superhero. To ashamed to say American Way are we? Brandon Routh was good as Superman/ Clark Kent except for the tons of makeup they splashed on his face. His face was as silky smooth as a newborn babys ass.
