One of the most breakout films of 2007, Superbad which is the equivalent to other hilarious films such as Role Models, The Hangover, and Pineapple Express. I've seen this movie somewhere between 10 and 15 times. It's sad that I have that much time to myself but, I could be worse, I could be playing video games. . .(joke). Superbad was released throughout the U.S. on August 17th, August 17th was national head day, instead of women getting what they wanted, men got what they wanted-head. Now I have no idea why people would call it "head," day but that day for all the people that knew August 17th was head day they probably said: "I wanna see Superbad!" Superbad is by far one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Produced by the great Judd Apatow, Superbad won 5 awards. Winning one award is something, but five, thats a bg number award wise.

The story is classic. Something very common everywhere, teens getting alcohol illegally for a party. But theres more to it in Superbad, Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera) are best friends, they try and get through the last few weeks of high school, they aren't necessarily popular but they get an invitation to a party. They have a long day trying to get alcohol for it with their "friend" Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Please). Seth and Evan's plan is simple, get their crushes, Jules (Emma Stone) and Becca (Martha MacIssac) drunk enough so they can f*ck. F*ck as in sex. There are so many side-stories in the film that to me are just, genius and unique. The sex, party, alcohol. Classic comedic elements that when funny writers get together, they can make the one the the funniest movies of all time. Superbad was written by Jonah Hill ad Evan Goldberg. Both comedic master minds. There is a good/bad chemistry between Evan and Seth which makes them even more classic combo, they love each other and yet they hate each other at times. The chemistry between Fogell And Seth is simply hilarious, Seth cannot stand Fogell. There are even threats to Fogell throughout the film which makes it eve funnier. The chemistry between Fogell and Seth isn't too bad, he's nice at times but mean at times. The only reason they embark on this journey with Fogell is because he has a fake a ID which they can use to get alcohol. But things go wrong and they split. The story is nothing short of amazing, the side stories are also just fantastic, litte drama and a lot of funny.

The cast was great. Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Please. 3 new, and great actors. Jonah Hill's portrayed his character perfectly. His character is a violent/aggressive type of person that will really hurt your feelings and pick on you constantly. And when he wants something, he is determined to get it, he is determined to make love to Jules. He plays his character so well, a fat, mean, and horny teenager. Michael Cera's character is Evan, he just goes with the flow, the only reasons he his embarking on this hilarious journey is to get with Becca, and because Seth drags him along. He is a calm and gentle person, he doesn't enjoy Seth all the time, they are basically opposites. But their childhood makes him want to be friends. They've been friends since childhood, and that was better for Evan. And Michael Cera just seems like a shy and quiet fellow and thats what he pretty much is in the film too. Christopher Mintz-Please's character is a desperate party boy. He doesn't have many friends, just Evan. He tries to fit in but when he meets officer Slater (Bill Hader) and officer Michales, he becomes a new, cool, and fun person. But hey, doesn't everybody with a couple of beers? Chirstopher Mintz-Please to me, is an underrated actor, he has been successful so far, but he isn't really a "house-hold" name meaning not everyone has heard of him. My friends and I refer to him as "McLovin" and thats what the majority of people know him as because his fake ID in Superbad just says "McLovin" on it. And Therefor, Seth ridicules him for it. The other cast members consisted of, Bill Hader, Seth Rogen, Emma Stone, and Martha MacIssac, who all did awesome in the film.

Superbad was directed by Greg Mottola. He has directed 2 well known movies, Adventureland and Superbad. And both he did a very good job. I Superbad I liked how he released the beast in Jonah Hill and made him a terrible person in the film. He won 5 awards. Which is a good sign, and in Superbad, he did a very good job showing Seth's bad side. Some people don't know this but the director helps the actors show emotions, anger, happiness, disappointment..etc. Seth when anger, just goes all out and Greg shows that very well. He also did a good job showing Evan become his own man towards the end of the movie (sorry for the spoiler). In the beginning his pretty much Seth's "bitch" but in the end he will stand up for himself. Greg Mottola has done an excellent job as a director and a mentor to these great young actors. Which has definitely payed off.

The visuals were very good. Not much to say about them though, It's not like there were lasers, planes, or people getting shot. Most the time, all you see is the city, stores, bars, suburbs. Thats pretty much it. But that counts as visuals and they did a nice job and capturing each of the scenes. Russ T. Alsobrook did the cinematography and well done to him. Some scenes were perfectly sequenced. He has done cinematography for, "Role Models," and "Paul Blart: Mall Cop." But the visuals aren't much too brag about.

May I just say, that the music was great, Lyle Workman did the music and he did a fantastic job at it. He has won 2 awards, one for "The 40 year old Virgin" and "Yes Man." There wasn't really any original music, but he chose the perfect songs for some of the scenes.

The Casting Director, Allison Jones is just fantastic at picking the actors, the actors were literally born to play their roles, just perfection. She has worked ALOT with Judd Apatow, she was the casting director for "The Other Guys," "Funny People," "Step Brothers," and "Knocked Up," all hilarious films. She has a great eye for talent. She picks some of the best actors for their roles.

In conclusion, Superbad is a movie that I think everyone should see. One of the funniest films in the world that isn't stupid. And what I mean by stupid is the majority of movies by Adam Sandler. Although "Funny People" was pretty good. Superbad has the story, acting, directing, and visuals which all make up a great film. I have seen this movie many many times, my friend showed me it and I was absolutely stunned by how good it was. At first I thought it would just be another stupid film but I was surprised and happy that I was. This movie makes me laugh very hard every time I see it. And I guarantee, it'll do the same for you.

I liked the movie, but would never compare it to my favorite comedies. And as much as everyone seems to hat Cera, I don't find him nearly as irritating as I do Jonah Hill. He just pisses me off.

The movie was showing teenagers how they REALLY are, perverted, foul, lewd, and just all around disgusting. They did an amazing job with this movie and anyone expecting anything more didnt pay attention to the trailer. Funny as hell movie, great review.

I almost never laughed. It just wasn't for me. In my mind, this movie represents all the superficial aspects of teenagehood that I detest. Crass for crass' sake never wins me over.

@Boston Supes briefly hit on it. This is the movie that came out that was everything a 14 to 16-year old boy would sneak into to go see. People felt "cool" going to see it because of all of the foul language and dirty jokes. I don't mind foul language and dirty jokes, but not when it's the selling point of getting people in. The movie just had a distasteful tone to it. I did laugh quite a bit in it, but I grew tired immediately over the hype and buzz it got from kids too young to even get into it.

I hate Michael Cera's face and pedophile voice, and the movie had me rolling my eyes almost the entire time. It was an exercise in sophomoric humor at best, in my opinion. But like *ssholes, we all have one. Good review, though.
