i do like the word film when it is used properly to my liking ,the word movie could be anything,a blast or a fizzle,but when i say "film" it means that the feature will last because of story ,character,and action.and sometimes the first two is all you may need. Super 8 had all 3 and i think (and i'm no super film critic) that it will be around for a while for those that enjoy watching certain movies again. i'm just going to say it...super 8-the best movie of the summer.

@coolnblue raiders of the lost ark was the best!!!! and ur right super 8 drains out all movies showing during the summer holidays!!! I went to watch ccowboys and aliens during the summer too and i was the only girl in the screen. haha. i really wanted to watch captain america but didnt get a chance :( p.s i like ur taste in movies

to "something more" below "I would say that it's too bad that super eight seemed to die out at the movies around here when it looks like cowboys and aliens & captain america will play longer,They were somewhat great but i still stand by my comment below about super eight and so far it's the movie of the summer concerning story and character and the look of the whole thing,an instant classic i'll say , even better than the last indiana jones movie which looked too cgiish especialy at the beginning and the end , ..just looked fake,raiders of the lost ark was much better.
i just saw "the debt"..and cooley written and delivored as it was i still say super eight was better.
avoid shark night...terrible.
and rise of the planet of the apes...almost terrible,see it on dvd,
The original with charlton heston better and all the original sequals they made were better i think than any new remakes.
if i may ramble on for a minute more.. that new spider man was a bad idea,who wants to see that retold again, i mean really!

i just saw cowboys and aliens and captain america 3d and believe it or not, i say that super eight was a better movie, it actualy was to me ,a movie with better character and story, although i do say that the captain america music to the closing credits was fantastic,like the music played at superman when closing or something like that.
I like movies sometime, if you can catch um ,that cause you to have to look to see if you are really grown up and no longer a kid. Those are the ones that give you a feeling of youth once more. Super 8 does that.... It's just that spielberg charm or anyone that follows "somewhat" in his foot steps. not "many" directors or people in the movie business make you feel this way. There tOO busy with making a dollar rather than a movie i reckon .

Just a thought - what are they going to call a sequel if they make one? Lol. They can't call it 'Super 8 2', you'll have people asking where Super's 1-7 and 9-81 went lol

super freaking out of this world...it was like goonies,close encounter of the 3rd kind,and et, all rolled into to one. i felt like a kid again at the movies. I've heard spielberg speak on his early ventures as a movie maker, and watching those young people take the camera and go for it was something to see.Maybe the best movie i've seen all year, better than thor, and a couple of others. This 1 had better character,story,heart,and an ending that satifies like the old days. i'm going to say it ... a happy ending.
also i like that they kept the oppsing figure hidden until the right momment like Jaws, well done! Movie makers- take note.

I loved this movie. It is an throwback to the old blockbusters and the old steven spielburg movies. You connect with the story and the characters. The cinematography is excellent and the visual are well done for this movies. This movie puts story and character before everything else and that is what makes it different from other movies these days. GO SEE THIS MOVIES!!!!

Great movie, I caught a problem in the filming though. The main character is painting models in one scene and he is holding a Testor's model paint container. You can clearly see a barcode on the rear of the paint bottle. Testors did not start doing this until maybe 10 or so years ago. I know, stupid details...but awesome movie. Well worth seeing it in IMAX quality too!
