Here's the deal. These dudes live in a small New England town and like many Stephen King creations our main dude played by The Punisher's Thomas Jane works out of the house. He paints movie posters. That's a cool job. So he works out of his house and has a wife and child. Nice life.
So there is this massive storm that knocks out power and on a mission to resupply his food and whatever. He gets stranded inside of the grocery store with a nice cross cut of folks that could very well live around you. There are hicks and a lawyer, a Jesus freak, kids, teachers. all sorts of dudes. So, he's stranded inside of the store when this totally freaky MIST rolls into and over everything. It's thick and spooky and if that wasn't bad enough there are horrific insects and monsters in it.
Ya, there are monsters THE MIST. Really gross man eating ones. The effects are good and the monsters look real. That's always a plus. I'm watching this stupid remake of The Wizard Of Oz on Sci-Fi and the monsters are so fake looking. It's totally ghetto. That takes away so much from the product.
The Mist has some cool beasts though. At the end there is like this GIGANTIC horrible dinosaur thing with lobster claws and tentacles that gave me creepy dream last night and the bugs are just grody. One of them stings this pretty chick with good hair and her head swells up like a disiese filled balloon. It was totally rank.
Anyhow, this is really a story of how quickly stuff can hit the fan when the lights go out. I mean, there were freaky beasts and that is way worse then just having the lights go out but still that's the story. At first everything is fine but before you know it everyone is at each other's throats. Like, literally. That's when the fun starts.
There are fights and arguments and missions to get medicine from the pharmacy across the street. All the while filthy creatures are all about the city and maybe the world. No one knows anything. That's another thing that is scary. No one knows a darn thing. This could be a local problem or it could be that the world is overrun. The lack of knowledge creates crazy mad paranoia.
It's hard to write this without giving too much away. It's supposed to be mysterious. I guess that I'm going to stop right about now. If you like monsters and blood and freaky stuff then this is prolly the movie for you. Really though, you can wait till it's out on disc or on cable. I don't think that this is a must see but it is pretty cool and for a last minute decision type movie you can't ask for more then that.
